Words on Worship

Worship begins with a heart of repentance

Posted by Charles Billingsley on

Over the last few days we have been making our way through the 4-step process of revival in 2 Chronicles 7:14.  We must humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and today, just a word about that last step…turn from our sinful ways. To repent literally means we make an about face…we turn from the way we were heading, and intentionally go the opposite direction. As worshipers, we must regularly confess our sins and work to stay in right relationship with the Lord so that we stay in intimate fellowship with Him. And…He is faithful and just to forgive us.  But we must...

Worship the Lord by seeking His face

2 Chronicles 7:14 gives us a 4-step process to personal revival.  In that verse, the Lord tells us we are to humble ourselves, pray, seek HIs face, and turn from our sin. I love that phrase "seek His face." It implies we are to seek the very heart and mind of God.  We are to seek after who He is.  So often we seek the hand of God before we seek the face of God.  When we seek God's hand...we are looking for what God can do.  When we seek the face of God, we are looking at who God is.  Although it is perfectly natural...

Worship the Lord through prayer

When we pray, we are communicating directly from our heart to the heart of God.  Praying is our opportunity to enter into intimate fellowship with our Savior.  When we pray, it opens our heart to revival and it gives our minds the proper perspective on how to live daily. In his wonderful book, The Circle Maker, Mark Batterson says, “ Who we become is determined by how we pray. Ultimately, the transcripts of our prayers become the script of our lives." What is the story God is writing in your life? What does that script look like? Are you close enough to God to...

Praying is a form of worship

We were reminded yesterday of the 4-step process to revival that is laid out for us in 2 Chronicles 7:14.  We must humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our sin.  Today, just a word about step 2: praying.  One of the most powerful ways we can worship the Lord is through prayer.  It is when we pray that we humble ourselves enough to seek God's direction in our lives. But remember, prayer is a two-way conversation…it is us talking to God, but it is also God talking to us.  Prayer is not just us making petition to God for the things we...

Do you worship with humility?

Posted by Charles Billingsley on

In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God gives us a clear 4-step process to personal revival.  "If my people will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways. Then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” So the first step is to humble ourselves in the sight of God.  How do you do that?  It starts on our knees.  We must get to the place in our lives where our sole desire is to be who God wants us to be which then leads to doing what God wants us to do.  Today I encourage you to...
