What does the Bible mean when it says my body is a temple of the Lord?

There is perhaps nothing more majestic than the sight of a gorgeous temple. A temple is a sanctuary, the house of God, a place for corporate worship. Throughout history, the temple has been looked upon as the place the Spirit of the Lord dwells.   And yet, in I Corinthians 6:19, the Apostle Paul refers to our bodies as a temple.  Why?  Because as Christians, the Spirit of the Lord dwells in each of us.  Our bodies are the very sanctuary in which the Holy Spirit of God resides.  Whoa! Nothing like that little reminder to encourage pure living!  I encourage you to say those words over and over in your heart today…My body is the Temple of the Lord; God Himself dwells in me. This will remind you of the responsibility we all have to honor and worship God in everything we do.
